Algerian Ambassador to China Visited ZPMC to Discuss Sino-Algeria Cooperation
Recently, Algeria’s new Ambassador Alhassan Bukhalifa to China and his men visited ZPMC and Liu Qizhong, Vice President of ZPMC attended the reception.
The main purpose of Ambassador Alhassan’s visit was to introduce and promote the new port project in the central area of Algeria jointly invested by China and Algeria, hoping that Chinese enterprises could actively participate in the project to promote the economic and trade development between China and Algeria.
Liu Qizhong briefed to Alhassan on ZPMC’s history, business, manufacturing capacity and overseas service centers and other basic information, and said that ZPMC had the interest and ability to help Algeria build the new port project in the central area of Algeria. Currently, ZPMC has provided port machinery for quite a few countries in North Africa, such as Morocco, Egypt, and Tunisia. However, as ZPMC has not provided equipment for Algeria, it does hope that it can enter the market of Algeria by taking the project as an opportunity to provide Algeria quality port lifting equipment. At the same time, it will participate in the investment and operation of the port by relying on the platform of CCCC and China Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. and following the policy of the Belt and Road Initiative of China to make a contribution to the “Go-out” strategy.
The new port project of Algeria is located at Elhamdania, which is at the west side of Cherchell, a mid coastal city that is 60 Km away from Algiers, capital of Algeria. The total investment of the port is about US$3.5 billion. After completed, the port will have 23 berths and be 6,320 meters long in total. The port, together with other land facilities, will cover an area of 1,032 hectares and be capable of an annual throughput of 6.3 million TEUs and 27.5 million tons of bulk cargo. Upon completion, it will be Algeria’s largest port and also the main cargo distribution center in coastal area of Mediterranean.
